Save the Teffont Spire Appeal
How To Donate
The Church of St Michael and All Angels in the picturesque village of Teffont Evias is at risk. We very much hope you will be able to contribute to our campaign to Save the Teffont Spire and help restore the Church and secure its long-term future. No donation is too small and every one will make a difference.
Donations may be made by cash or card in the church, by BACS or by QR code via ParishGiving (see below for details).
Donor doubling
If you let us know who you are, your donation will also benefit from a match funding scheme offered by a generous benefactor between now and 31 December 2026. This scheme will double the sum of any donation you make up to the sum of £500. This is not limited to £500 donations; it applies to all gifts, large or small. What this means in practice:
A donation of £500 becomes £1000
A donation of £250 becomes £500
A donation of £1000 becomes £1500
A donation of £10,000 becomes £10,500
And importantly, if a couple donates jointly. the gift should be declared as two equal individual donations. For example, a £1000 joint donation (£500 each) will be matched with 2 x £500 resulting in a donation of £2000 in total.

About the Appeal to Save the Teffont Spire
The Diocese of Salisbury conducts a Quinquennial Inspection of the fabric of all its churches every five years. The most recent report from the inspection of St Michael and All Angels was published in 2024 and its findings were stark. It stated that “the church is evidently well cared for but there are some major repairs required immediately or in the very near future” and listed over 60 areas of work.
In particular need of urgent repair are areas of the tower supporting the spire, the ceiling in the nave and chancel; also the bells and a number of the monuments. Many of the repairs are to areas of the church that are hard to access and the restoration is expected to cost £300,000 - £500,000.
Formation of the Project Group, the Friends of St Michael and All Angels
The sum required for the restoration is well beyond the means of the village alone but the building has stood for 900 years, maintained by the generations over that time and it has been decided that it is our turn to ensure it is fit for years to come. Therefore, a Project Group of village volunteers, the Friends of St Michael and All Angels, has formed as a sub-committee of the Parochial Church Council to raise funds for the restoration.
Our vision is not only to restore the church so it remains at the heart of the breathtakingly beautiful and ancient landscape in which we live but also to equip it to survive and prosper for the benefit of current and future generations.
What’s happened so far to Save the Teffont Spire?
The restoration work will be conducted in phases. The first phase is a detailed investigative programme to identify the detail and priority of the restoration work required. We have reached the target of £50,000 to fund this investigative stage and work has started. We are now fund raising for the major restoration work that is expected to happen over the next three years. Fund raising will be done by many means including donations, events and applications to relevant charities for financial grants.
